GIFs

Post by [JiF]zougathefist »

Does anyone know of any free/opensource software that can be used to produce animated GIFs

Also can GIFs be created from still pictures or do you need a video to work from.

Cheers

Gimp for Windows will do it. It is what I use for still photos.

Gimp for Windows??

If I had received that response on an open forum I would have laughed it off - luckily I trust you

I've used Gimp since I retired because I lost access to Photoshop and I didn't want to pay big bucks for a copy at home. It works well plus you can easily google how to do stuff. I mainly use it to crop photos and do a little photoshopping. If Grimp and I can use it, then it can probably be used by your cat (assuming you have a cat). If you don't have a cat, then even Jimbo could use it.

I dunno if Jimbo could, but my cat uses it all the time. It does have a learning curve, but as Tissue says there is training and how-to stuff available.

Made with Gimp. Well the animation was made with Gimp. MS Movie Maker to for the audio and titles.
Ya it's pretty bad, but shows you can do stuff with Gimp :)

I use Gimp myself, it's nice for those of us that can't afford Photoshop! When it comes to resizing pictures I ran across a much easier method using the program from http://imageresizer.codeplex.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; a while ago. Right click a picture and you have the option to resize and save. It's just easier than opening Gimp or something else to simply resize a photo. :)
