UKLA NEEDS HELP - BF 1942 FAIL

Post by ukla »

Fellas,

I fired up BF 1942 last night and decided to delete 1 of my 2 profile names. Well, BF locked up for some reason. I had to "end program" in order to exit.

Now I can't even get BF running. I fire it up and the screen goes black as if preparing for the intro screen. But then the program closes and my screen resolution has changed to 800 x 600.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is there some sort of program file that stores profile names that I could access?

Cheers,
Ukla

Hmmm, sounds like you mnay have deleted something critical,
how did you delete the profiles?
could be that you need to do a re-install

as i said i can just reset ur comp to a date before the trouble started(like 2 days before) that way windows will do everxthing by itself and it will only take u bout 10-20 minutes and then no need to reinstall

I don't want to revert to an older date b/c I have made updates to iTunes, Quicktime and Windows since the BF failure.

All I did was select a profile name that I no longer use and then hit "remove" (I believe that was the button name).

I am thinking that a reinstall may be my only option at this stage.

Do you guys know if there is some sort of file that stores our profile name? I'd like to get into that file using notepad or something ... see if there is an ez fix.

I appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Ukla

Hi Ukla,

I've never had it happen, nor heard of that when deleting a profile. I bet you will have to reinstall it. Sorry, wish I had a fix for ya but that's a new one on me.

Yep, I am thinking the same thing about the reinstall.

HOPEFULLY this isn't due to bad memory. One of my slots is shot so I am down to a single 1GB stick (which is only a month old). My Dell Inspiron laptop has been nothing but trouble - on third screen/monitor, second motherboard and down to one good memory slot. Total piece.

Looking like I won't be able to play tonight. Maybe tomorrow though.

I think your memory is okay - the minimum requirments are 128MB RAM.

hey UKLA for technical help try these two forums
Planet Battlefield- Dweller Benthos is your best bet on this forum, the guy knows just about all there is to know about BF42 (tech help at the bottom of page)
Serverside Modding - These forums are used by the guys that created BG42 and some FH guys

I have an inspiron and it has been fine except for one of my memory slots, I upgraded to 2gb RAM and damaged the second slot trying to put the old dell module in the other slot.

Hi UKLA

The profiles are stored under c:/EAGames/Battlefield 1942/Mods/bf1942/settings/profiles

Hope this may be of some help!

Well, I finally got it fixed with Trogdor's help today at work. At one point BF through a memory error. I did a search and found a thread on a gamespy forum from 4 years ago. A guy experienced the same exact problem after deleting a profile name.

SOLUTION:
Delete this folder: C:\Documents and Settings\CURRENTUSER(varies)\My Documents\Battlefield 1942

We also had to remove these files (there seemed to be a conflict with PunkBuster):

C:\Documents and Settings\CURRENTUSER\My Documents\BF42 Hacks\aimbot.cfg
C:\Documents and Settings\CURRENTUSER\My Documents\BF42 Hacks\no_fog.cfg
C:\Documents and Settings\CURRENTUSER\My Documents\BF42 Hacks\sheep_on_crack.cfg <-- note: only works on Stonehenge
