Punkbuster and Avira anti-virus.

Post by [JiF]Melon Farmer »

Yesterday after my Avira updated, it started calling one of the pb files a trojan, and denied access, which of course repeatedly kicked me from gameplay. ;( The only way I could get it to stop was to dump Avira, and use AVG instead. I even deleted and re-installed pb, and it still did it, so I know it's really not a virus, just a glitch. It even did it when I clicked "ignore" and that's when I decided to try another anti-virus program. No trouble with AVG so far. :) If anyone has similar issues, here's your fix!

My work laptop has Trend on it, but when I play I disable the anti-virus altogether.

I use task manager to end all the processes involved with Trend.

Gav: Well, most of the modern anti-virus software products will produce false positives once in a while. Switching to another of course can help, when you're in a hurry - but usually those false positives are discovered pretty quickly, so that the problems are typically gone with an update on the next day... If one really is in a hurry, I'd first suggest to check the software settings, though - because there you can often control detection levels, which might be the faster solution. I.e., depending on what alarm you actually get, it can for example already help to reduce the detection levels of the heuristic or behavioural analytics temporarily.
