Well at least I can play now.
I have to disable all the F-Secure protections and unload it.
Then I have to stop any remaining F-Secure system services.
Then I can play. It's a pain in the butt, but it does work.
Can't find any cures on the web from F-Secure or EvenBalance.
There seem to be enough people having the issue where I can wait until one of them fixes it without starting my own string of tickets with F-Secure and PB :)

Ok this is the problem I get with my new computer. The maps load perfectly in BF42 but pb kicks me with this:

"Kicked for 0 minutes - Restriction: Service Abnormality".
So when the map loads I bring down the console and watch the log generate, it gets to the part about "receiving from pb servers" blah blah ( can't remember right off the exact)
and that is when I'm promptly booted with said message from pb.

Yes I've updated all pb files, everything has admin rights (pbA, pbB, pbK, BF42) all set to run in Win98 compatibility mode ( was only way to get maps to load without crash to desktop).
I'm running VISTA Ultimate 64.
AVG Free- even tried with AVG off, Windows firewall off/on. Made special exceptions in firewall also for PnkBstrA, B, K, BF42.
I think that's everything. I've been sitting on this for a bit waiting to see of anyone has the same issue but no one has said "Service Abnormality" error.
I miss BF42 since my new build but if I can't get it going because of PunkBuster then I will retire it.

Are you running BF in administrator mode ?

Same thing with PB setup (for the manual updates) and PB services for re-installing PunkBuster to that specific game. If you don't, Vista won't grant these program write access to your registry base.

Ya EVERYTHING that has something to do with pb and BF is setup with no restrictions, have all admin rights and so on.
I am going to turn off UAC later and see if that helps. Will post results.

Bingo ! I read somewhere that it helped some people to turn it off.
