Error loading jiff.net

I got a call from waterboy, he can't get onto the jiff site. He'll get a few different errors, "page not found", "domain jiff.net is invalid" error, or "domain not found" error. He is using IE7 and I had him switch over to Firefox and it was no help. Cleaned out his cookies too. Was there an ISP block put out or should he call RR?

see if he can get to it via IP 208.131.136.118. If he can then he can go to the command prompt and try doing an nslookup on http://www.jiff.net and see if he gets the same IP back, or if it's not coming back with anything. If it's not coming back with the name he can call rr. Oh he should also be able to do an nslookup 208.131.136.118 and get back http://www.jiff.net or jiff.net.

Jimbo,

I'm logged in with my laptop right now, so it must be something with my computer/IP.

I'm copying files to DVD, in case I have to do a system restore to fix.

Once done copying DVD, I'll try the things you posted and let you know from there.

FYI. I did try unplugging my firewall/router to try and reset my IP address, but that did not work.
I did NOT try to unplu the modem itself.

thanks for the advice - I'll let u know!!

LT

ps. It is the ONLY website that I cannot access!! UGH!!!

hmmm....

the IP u gave me brought it up. :) Here's the kicker thou.

interesting thou, this is what i got when i did the nslookup from the cmd:

Server: 85.255.114.98-xbox.dedi.inhoster.com
Address: 85.255.114.98

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: http://www.jiff.net.cinci.rr.com
Address: 64.28.185.109

What the heck does this all mean??

FYI. I went to the CMD and typed in nslookup http://www.jiff.net (exactly like this and the above is what I got).

Also,

looks like when I use the IP address to login, it does not "store" my auto login. I tried deleting cookies from my profile (at least, I think I did it correctly!), but it still forces me to login everytime i leave the site.... :(

That's odd, I wonder if anyone else is having a problem getting to the site.

not that I know of.

Kelly tried and so did Thos (both got in ok).

also had a buddy of Kelly's and mine try to go in (they have roadrunner with TWC as well).

they got on with no problem using http://www.jiff.net.

I might just try a system restore to see if that helps. not sure in Sunday's is far enuff back thou.... only one I can go back too.... :(

ps. so i guess u have no idea what the nslookup results meant, huh?? fyi, i know my neighbor upstairs plays online with an xbox. i dont even have one!!

shouldn't be typing the http:// not sure why it's adding it. what did you get when you did the nslookup on the address and not the name? Not sure what is going on with the xbox thing. I don't think a restore is going to help you, seems that your dns server is messed up not your pc.

Jimbo,

got it fixed and found the issue (well Roadrunner tech helped me out!!):

1. Spybot found a Zlob.DNSChanger as the problem. hijacked my DNS (like u said above).
2. RR/TWC said that our website is not protected.
3. had to go in to connection wizard and adjust/repair my DNS settings (along with a /flush dns in CMD).

got the spyware from some P2P file sharing sites... ugh!!!

that will teach me!!! ;)

thanks again for the help!!
