Saving a laptop hard drive

My cousin's laptop, an HP DV1000 crapped out on her recently. She initially got a "Hard drive failure imminent" warning and thinking the best way to avoid it was to not turn the laptop off. Sometime later it finally went poof (the computer just shut down) and it won't boot up. It's getting no power whatsoever, even with a fresh battery or connected directly to the AC. If the hard drive is still good, is there any way to connect it to a regular PC and download her data to another hard drive?

You can get a usb adapter for it or just an adapter to convert it to a standard IDE cable.

I knew they had these for 3.5" drives, didn't realize they had them for 2.5" drives. Hopefully that'll do the trick.

Having a case could be handy. I have one and its cool, but you don't need one.

Its good for transferring data on 3.5 and 2.5 drives. Not something you would probably want to use as a hook up for a permanent external drive. More of a tool.
