New Car!

Post by [JiF]Mike »

This is my new 2006 Honda Civic EX, and it gets 30 mpg city, and 40 mpg on the highway. It looks a little funny to me, but I only had a few requirements, good on gas, comfortable, and affordable. Everyday I drive it I like it more and more. It's tough to go from driving a GMC truck full time to a car, but with gas prices like they are I needed to make a change.

The truck has not been sold, yet. I am fighting to keep it but I probably will end up selling it. :(

Congrats on the new car!

Well I've almost made the plunge on a new one for myself as well. I've been on three out of town trips and each time I've rented an '06 Mustang with the V6. Automatic with great pickup and handling, especially compared to my 4 wheel drive Toyota Tacoma. A long time ago, I finally gave up on having a sports car (I'm 6'6'') till I rented the Mustang. It's dang roomy, could actually stretch out my left leg nearly straight, although my right knee was about 2 inches from the dash and a bit confined between the steering wheel and console. But it wasn't bad enough to put me off the car...figured by this time next year I'd get one.

Yesterday I hear on the radio that Ford is offering 0% interest for 72 months on all 2006 models. I waited till the end of the commercial to hear the disclaimer that the Mustang GT was excluded, yet it did not happen. So today I decided what the heck, I'll go give the GT (300 HP V8 vs. 210HP V6 base model) with a manual transmission a test spin and go for it! Before getting in, I set the seat all the way back, tilted it a bit back and climb in...only to find my knees are much closer to the dash (touching slightly) than in the base models I've always rented. Double checked the seat settings, all the way back, and I didn't fit!!! Long story short, Ford somehow used up an extra 2 inches in the interior. The GT and Base model should be exact except for the engine, but maybe they took a couple of extra inches for the bigger engine. Went and sat in the base model with manual transmission and had the extra 2 inches I had before. Even tried an automatic GT and the same thing. :(

Now there's still 2 inches of space between the back of the seat and the back seats, so I asked if they could set the seat back two inches. Their service dept wasn't up for doing it, but they are checking with some other places that do aftermarket work.

But dang the GT was fun to drive! 8) I was still getting used to the clutch and hadn't floored it, but could still get that pushed back into your seat feeling!

If anyone is interested, there is a glut of 2006 GT's with automatic transmissions. Was looking through the dealer inventor online and they have quite a few on the lot. And they out number the GT's with manual transmissions by 10 to 1. But with the 2007's coming out now, they should be making some good deals on the 06's. At least for the auto ones.
