hey corn,
i D/L both of these but can't get 1918 to work it looks good tho.
i've played pirates but get totally battered (read: pwned) everytime, its a good game regardless.
it'd be fun if we got a group together of guys that don't play regularly, level playing field and all that
i'd be up for it

V2.8 of 1918 didn't support single player. They have released a single player patch that seems to work ok. See: http://en.inside1918.net/ In some ways it is much like FH in that you don't have to unload a full clip into someone to get a kill. The weapons and tanks are pretty neat, slow and nasty. They recently dumped their attempt to port 1918 to BF2 saying the BF2 engine was not up to the task. They have announced that they will be releasing 1918v3 for 1942 engine in the future.

Pirates on the other hand has released a BF2 based version. It's pretty funny but only a few simple maps have been included.

The problem with both of these games is finding a decent working server. The only occupied 1918 server I can ever find is a long way from here. It's tough to compete when everyone has a better than 80 ping while mine is bouncing over 250.

I downloaded bf1918 sometime last June and played on a server.
It was cool flying biplanes and blimps.
I tried it recently and had same problem, it would crash back to windows.
Must be a patch/update issue.

Pirates are fun when you fight battles in the big sailing ships. Aye Captain!

Download these maps for pirates. These guys on this server have their own maps.

Oh, thanks for the link Badger.

I never even tried BF1918. I do have quite a bit of pirates especially now with the new map pack !

New maps for more fun. Scurvy Dogs and TLB are the most populated servers with good pings for us north americans. But on some nights, you can get quite a few populated one.

I myself love the drunkard kit, I love bashing heads in with the big beer mug !

Corn I played Pirates the other night, and maybe it was just the map, but I wasn't really feeling it. There were no ships or anything, so it was just running around and shooting. I haven't tried 1918, but it looks pretty cool. If we can find a neat mod like these that everyone enjoys, I can most likely host a server for it.

I play Pirates from time to time when I want to take a break. It's a mod from some insanely creative developers and absolutely hilarious to play. The side effect from running around with a musket in Pirates is that my aim better with an automatic rifle in 1942.

Never played 1918. Can't run DC for that matter due to graphic card issues. Tried FH but found realism to be too slow for my tastes. The only mod I've found to be addictive is EOD.

YMMV.

What is Finn wars and/or is there a website?

Anyone know if the bf1918 2.8 version will solve the crashing problem?
I've spent a lot of time last few days trying to find a patch or fix without success. :(

Cool thread-
I have played both 1918 and Pirates. Pirates by far was more populated on any given night so I ended up playing that a lot more for awhile a couple of years back.
I think it would be a hoot to get some of us on one or the other server and blast it out. I agree, it would be a more level playing field since it seems we all have played them a lot less than BF42 or ?

The Komodo dragon was a complete laugh when I first saw it, its still one of my fav's in that mod.

My wife was a big fan of pirates as well and she would love to join, along with my teen. You could count 3 in if we go that way-

lets commit to a time/day soon

i've just DL 1918 and it works fine, the 2.8 ver hasn't crashed on me so far, its a really cool mod, i prefer it to FH.
Just DL EoD too, wow how good is it?
looks and feels like BFV but runs smoother on my PC.
I like the SP too, gives you a chance to learn the maps and spawn points,

how many confirmed do we need to get a server?

hey Corn, Finn Wars is another mod that recreates the NE russian Front, the war that Finland had with Russia in 39/40.
the finns were armed and supported by the Germans and held the red army for months, really embarrassed them, but they had to sue for peace,
there are only about 5-7 maps, but they are cool, all set in snow, with early 20thC weps, few automatics, and some older vehicles.
similar to FH but slightly less realistic so easier to play.
there are also a few active servers but mostly based in Eastern Europe, so the times are good for me but not u guys in the US.
there is a website, but you can DL it from FileFront or FilePlanet (registration req.), its not too big either about 2-300Mb if i remember rightly.

What about GC and GCX/ anybody play these. i cannot get them to work at all, constant crashes when map loads, SP or online.
I've tried the full reinstall as they suggest but no luck.
if anybody has played these can you help?
