HELP!

Post by [JiF]Batman »

So...

Assembled the computer to the best of my ability. It seems like it went ok.

Went to turn it on and there is a piercing high pitched whine and then beeps after a bit.

Did I totally ruin the thing?

OK that crisis is averted. I had not plugged the power lead into the video card...

Maybe the instructions should have noted that assembling a computer between 12 and 5 AM is not recommended? :D

So is it working?

That's what I was gonna say. :)

When I did my setup I thought I had everything perfect. Set my Bios up. Installed Windows XP. And then started installing software... rebooted and VOILA - the Blue Screen Of Death.

Turns out my MOBO had (has?) an issue with a single optical drive. I had to flip some connectors (masters/slaves) and finally got it straightened out but not until I'd reinstalled Windows 4 or 5 times. Far and away the worst part of my install. But she's worked fine since (WOOD KNOCKING SOUNDS).

Everything seems to be working now...with Vista no less.

I could not get HL2 to run. Then I realized I had not installed drivers for the video card. Actually, it was not using the video card at all. Tried HL2 and TF2 both work great.

2 days of working on this, but happy now.

You'll be even happier in a few years when you have to upgrade it and actually know what parts your machine will accept and how easy it is to install things. :)
