So...
Assembled the computer to the best of my ability. It seems like it went ok.
Went to turn it on and there is a piercing high pitched whine and then beeps after a bit.
Did I totally ruin the thing?

Re: Almost Back!
With rebates, I was within about $100 of my $1000 target...
I couldn't pass up the new monitor mouse and keyboard though
So much for responsible spending...
I'll save the money spent in electricity by running the LCD right?![confused :?](./images/smilies/confused.png)

Almost Back!
Hi all, With help from a number of good hearted Jiffers, I almost have a new computer. My 'budget' computer ended up not being as budget as I would have liked. I talked myself into buying new everything including monitor keyboard and mouse. The monitor and vid card showed up today and everything els...
Monitor?
OK, I think the computer stuff is squared away!
How about a monitor? Something around $200
Does this Acer look good?

Re: Budget Computer...
Thanks for bringing that up--that is another question I had.
So, when allocating funds, is the priority mother board, CPU, RAM, graphics card?
Do some motherboards come with integrated sound? Would I want one of those?
Thanks again for the help...

Re: Budget Computer...
Also, I am fine with and AMD mother board and CPU combo, I just don't know what any of their numbers mean. Cheaper is better, I just took a shot in the dark putting together that list--if there places to save money that's fine with me. If I am totally out to lunch, maybe we could tweak Mikes list of...

Re: Budget Computer...
Thanks for all the ideas. I am still a bit leary of putting a computer together from scratch though--is there soldering involved? Would it be better to avoid the Dell outlet stuff? With either one of the gaming PCs from Tiger Direct or building something from scratch being a better option? It would ...

Re: Budget Computer...
Hello again!
I am back and downloading TF2 onto my same old Dell PC.
Same question, any other thoughts on a PC under $1000?
It looks like that will mean XP. Would I even want Vista yet if I could get it?
Looking forward to seeing you all in the Fortress...if it runs ok on my machine...
Cheers!

Got the game, got it installed.
Hopefully I will see some of you soon on the battlefield!
Anybody use the TS server anymore? Is there one? Is it still RC2?
Cheers!
